- Trainees should apply for 5 days study leave per 6 month cycle
- The 6 month cycle will run from August & February each year
- Any CT2 trainee who is successful in the Primary FRCA exam, before the end of the CT2 training year will be allowed to attend the classes, provide the department is able to release the trainee to attend
Life Support Courses
In addition, approval would be given to 1 life support course per training year.
ALS
The MDSA is expecting to provide 1 ALS course per training year, thus approval to attend ALS courses outside the deanery will not be given in normal circumstances
APLS/ PLS
APLS is not seen as a priority for StR1-4 trainees – PLS course should be sufficient for junior trainees. MDSA has agreed provision of these courses with Alder Hey Hospital

There is currently no provision for such courses exclusive to the MDSA. Approval will be given to attend such a course, provided an ALS or PLS course has not been undertaken in the same training year
