Life Support Courses

In addition approval would be given to 1 life support course per training year, provided there are sufficient funds within the study leave budget of the trainee.

ALS Courses are provided at a number of centres across Health Education North West (Mersey), thus hotel & travelling costs will not usually be reimbursed if trainees choose to go outside HENW (Mersey) for such courses.

APLS is not seen as a priority for CT1/2 & ST3/4 trainees – PLS course should be sufficient for junior trainees. MDSA has agreed provision of these courses with Alder Hey Hospital. MEPA is preferable to APLS for ST3/4, as APLS can undertaken in later years of training.

Trauma Course

There is currently no provision for such courses exclusive to the MDSA. Approval will be given to attend such a course, provided an ALS or PLS course has not been undertaken in the same training year
