Most of the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviour described in the CCT document relate to acute pain, which should be the main focus of training. However, some exposure to chronic pain practice is also necessary. Pain experience should include:
Specific “in theatre” teaching
Attendance each year, at:
- 1 dedicated acute pain round, with tutorial.
- 1 pain clinic
- 1 pain procedure session.
There is some specific teaching on pain at the Basics course.
A suitable form for recording pain training has been incorporated in to the Mersey Anaesthetic Core Training Portfolio and is available as “Record of Pain Training for CT1,2”.
