ARCP Assessment

Interim Meeting

This is an informal meeting between the Head of School or Training Programme Director and the trainee.

Trainees are invited to attend an Interim Review. This consists of the specialty meeting informally with trainees throughout the year to assess progress. In Emergency Medicine this usually takes place in March. It is at this time you will be able to discuss your preferences or concerns with the Training Programme Director.

Although this meeting may be facilitated by the Deanery, it is purely the responsibility of the Head of School and Training Programme Director to co-ordinate this process.

Documentation Reviews

The Documentation Review convenes to review paperwork / e-portfolio only.

Trainees are not required to attend.

Document review is being held on 12 June 2013

The Mersey Deanery will give trainees at least six weeks notice of the date by which the necessary documentation is required so that trainees can obtain structured reports from their educational supervisors. Documentation must be received at least 2 weeks before the date of the Document Review, to enable School Administrators to sort out and photocopy paperwork for the panel.

If following the Documentation Review the panel note any trainees that are not at the required standard of training, they will be invited to attend the ARCP, also, failure to produce timely, adequate evidence for the Documentation Review will result in an incomplete outcome (Outcome 5) and will require the trainee to explain to the ARCP panel and Deanery in writing the reasons for the deficiencies in the documentation.

Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP) Panel

Specialty Trainees are required to attend this meeting.

ARCP is being held on 09 July 2013

Documentation must be received at least 2 weeks before the date of the ARCP and portfolio’s should be submitted (unless on e-portfolio). Trainees will not be chased to provide the documentation by the required date but should be aware that failure to do so will result in the panel failing to consider their progress.

The ARCP panel will also review 10% of the Document Check Review recommendations for satisfactory outcomes.

Once the 10% has been confirmed as satisfactory, all the ARCP Certificates are produced by the Deanery and sent out to the trainees.

Less Than Full Time Trainees

The GMC now requires Deaneries to provide evidence that all trainees are seen at least once a year, so your e-portfolio/documentation will be considered but you will not receive an ARCP outcome or certificate.
