Details

Assessment is a vital part of education. Whether you are a trainee or a GP performer, assessing yourself or being assessed by your educational supervisor or an external body, you cannot understand your progress towards attaining the competences for autonomous practice as a GP without being fully involved in assessment. Completing and reflecting on regular assessments of your performance is a professional responsibility and part of the duties of a Doctor. If you do not fulfil this responsibility you cannot practice as a GP.

The nMRCGP is designed to demonstrate that you are competent to undertake independent practice in the UK. The entire curriculum and assessment programme have been approved by PMETB. The award allows you to obtain a Certificate of Completion of Training through the RCGP’s Certification Unit at the end of your programme of training. The exam has specifically incorporated a workplace based assessment component completed throughout the entire time of your training programme. The other two components – the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) and the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) – are taken towards the end of the training period. We do not recommend that the CSA is undertaken before the final year of your programme.

In addition to the assessments in the WPBA and evidence of progression across all of the 12 domains of competence within it you will be required to demonstrate evidence of Out of Hours experience and a certificate of competence in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation before your WPBA can be signed off as being completed.
