We are a five partner practice working from a large Victorian stone house standing in relaxing gardens. Healthcare here has a traditional feel. Bollington is a small town with several former old mills and a strong sense of community. Present and former partners have been involved in local projects such as The Arts Centre close to the surgery which hosts concerts, plays and other cultural events.
The practice team are cohesive and supportive. We have an integrated practice nurse team. The team includes five practice nurses who have a variety of interests, including all areas of CDM. We have two health visitors and three district nurses. We also have a daily HCA who as well as phlebotomy, runs weight loss, well being and smoking cessation clinics. Our counsellor runs surgeries twice weekly alongside a CPN and a graduate mental health worker. The in house physiotherapy team run daily NHS and private clinics.
We are fortunate to have a well organised practice. Systems within the practice are generally well developed and managed; we have been paperlite for ten years and use the widows-based Synergy system. We have free access to the Internet and are on the NHS Net with full e-mail facilities. We rely greatly on our computer manager to keep us up-to-date with all that the latest IT has to offer.
The partners range in age from the early 40s to late 50’s. We have three men and two women but also have 2 female salaried doctors. We have an in-house Drug Misuse Clinic and one partner is a clinical assistant in Dermatology. In addition to having a GP registrar, we are a teaching practice for medical students. Final year students from Manchester come for blocks of 8 weeks at a time. One of our partners is the Course Organiser for the Macclesfield Day Release Course.
We tend to meet frequently, lunch being provided daily at the surgery. Each week we have at least one educational meeting and one business meeting over lunch. The whole team are able to join us around the table and in summer we sometimes sit out in the gardens. On Thursday the Registrars attend the local Day Release Course at Macclesfield.
Bollington Medical Centre provides a supportive, welcoming environment.
