Profile

Ellesmere Port& Neston has a combined population of 87,000 and was built at the junction of the Shropshire Union canal and the Mersey estuary to serve the industrial expansion of the Victorian era. It now boasts a major car and petrochemical industry and a major retail and entertainment centre. It has good motorway access to Wirral, Manchester, Liverpool, North Wales and the rest of the country. The practice serves the whole of Ellesmere Port which has a varied clientele, from the relatively deprived east to the relatively well off west. The Primary Care Trust also serves the Neston area however the practice boundaries do not stretch to that district. Practice A long established practice of over 6,000 patients with 3 partners.

The practice is supported by 3 Practice Nurses and a Health Care Assistant shared with the other two practices in the Medical Centre. There are 6 Receptionists and a Senior Receptionist who provide the day-to-day administration

The practice aims to provide a high quality service, effectively and efficiently, as much as possible from our premises. To that end there is a full range of services from minor surgery and sigmoidoscopy, to psychological therapies and smoking cessation counselling.

Premises

The practice operates from a purpose built Medical Centre refurbished and extended in 1991. We accommodate 3 practices, including another training practice, which in total provides service to over 21,000 patients.

The practice shares facilities, equipment, computing system, the services of a Group Manager and 3 secretarial staff. The attached PCT-run Community Clinic accommodates the District Nurses, Health Visitors, Dentists and chiropody.

The Registrar is fully embraced into the practice at all levels. Although he/she can hide away in their own fully equipped consulting room and surf the net, the main aim is to produce a skilled, knowledgeable, self-motivated, ethical GP who effortlessly achieves summative assessment (and the MRCGP), thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and has a lot of fun too.

Teaching is eclectic. Style, methods and content are dependent, in most part, upon the learner.

The Registrar has a full half day off, attends the local half day release at either Wirral or Chester and has access to the local Postgraduate Centre. Courses in minor surgery, family planning and child health surveillance can be organised and the practical training is available "in-house".

The practice out-of-hours service for evenings and weekends is run by the Primary Care Trust under the new GMS contract arrangements however there will be the opportunity to experience work in this service during the training period.

We are a friendly, cohesive practice which sets high standards and is committed to teaching and learning. We value the challenge and input from our Registrars, and feel our responsibilities to them continue even after leaving us.

Further Information

For further information contact the surgery and ask for either the Group Manager, Alan Moore (direct dial 0870-0104891) or any of the partners.
