The Practice

We are a five-partner, two-Registrar practice with a list size of 9,000, working from a converted Victorian villa in a pleasant seaside resort. A Deanery inspection of our training in 2008 concluded that both Trainers offer “an excellent standard of training" - we scored the highest possible marks in 60 out of 66 categories for the second time in succession.

Our approach to training is flexible, depending largely on the needs of the Registrar. Registrars have their own room and computer with full Internet access. A core value of the practice is equality of workload for Partners and Registrars alike – this means that we won’t abandon you to play golf (one reason being that neither of us possesses any golf bats). All five partners are involved in training, three of whom are ex-Registrars and another an ex-trainer. We all meet informally over coffee each day and as a consequence are easily accessible to Registrars. The practice has an on-site pharmacy.

"I qualified from Charing Cross & Westminster in 1989 which was forced to close soon after - I don’t think that the two events are directly related. I am married to a palliative care physician - “you can never go wrong with a Bootle girl” – as one of my patients used to say. We have two children."

On-Call:

With the introduction of the New Contract we have given up all our on-call commitment and no longer work on Saturday mornings - hooray ! Registrars will only have to fulfil the Deanery’s contractual requirements for attending the on-call centre.

Are We Friendly ?

We suggest that you ask any of our ex-Registrars, eleven of whom are GPs in Southport and four of whom still work at the surgery ! We share all aspects of our jobs with our Registrars and try to make the workings of the practice as transparent as possible. Registrars attend all practice meetings. We find that regular contact with registrars continues for years after training.

Southport As A Base

The resort offers sun (occasionally), sand (lots) and exclusive shopping. Is it any wonder that the cast of Coronation Street pick Southport for a classy weekend away? There are many restaurants and a fairground. Housing is relatively cheap and attractive and the Lake District is an hour and a quarter away.
