Countess of Chester Hospital

Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Trust
Countess of Chester Health Park
Liverpool Road
Chester
CH2 1UL

The Hospital has approximately 3,000 deliveries per annum. The unit takes babies of all gestation and has a level 2 Neonatal Intensive care Unit (7 cots).

The Unit provides core obstetric ultrasound training and specialist clinics including Colposcopy, fertility, urogynaecology, AN medical disorders, family planning, oncology and MDT clinics. Minimal access surgery is well established in the department.

Education is taken seriously and there is a rolling half day a fortnight given over to the education of all staff with no clinical activities beyond emergencies done in that particular
session.

In addition, SHO teaching is run on Monday lunchtime and general teaching for trainees on Wednesday lunchtime.

A Departmental meeting, which discusses complex cases from the previous week and cases identified through clinical risk reporting occurs on a Tuesday lunchtime and clinical risk cases are discussed on Monday and Thursday on labour ward. In addition, a Grand Round occurs on Friday lunchtime.

The K2 CTG training package is mandatory for all staff working on the obstetric unit. Fourth year undergraduates from the University of Liverpool attend for clinical training.

The on-call is a compliant full shift system shared between 16 trainees.
