The Hospital has approximately 3500 deliveries per annum. All services are provided in the directorate and have consultant led satellite maternity services at Runcorn, Widnes, Hay dock and Newton le Willows.

The Unit provides core obstetric ultrasound training and specialist clinics including colposcopy, urodynamics, early pregnancy, vulva clinic and out patient hysteroscopy clinics. The unit provides fortnightly multidisciplinary diabetes in pregnancy clinics .Three minor procedure clinics are held each week and run by speciality trainees for ring pessaries,IUCD insertions etc There is a dedicated and active risk management team and the directorate has achieved CNST level 2 accreditation .The third year and fourth year students from Liverpool University attend the unit for clinical training. The Department has a well-established training programme with rolling regular half-day Audit/Education sessions. In addition, there are regular fortnightly Multi disciplinary cancer meetings. The on-call rota is a fully compliant shift system shared between 5 STR’s and 4 Staff Grades. In addition, the unit can provide training in all the ultrasound modules for the intermediate curriculum.
There is a weekly Grand round presentation in the hospital. The unit has a robust teaching programme for the GP STR and Foundation trainees. There is a weekly meeting on Thursday at lunchtime.
