My name is Alison Coackley and I am the Programme Director for Palliative Medicine here in the Mersey Deanery. My role is to manage the training programme for Specialist Registrars. I work very closely with Dr Cathy Lewis Jones who is the Regional Specialty Advisor and the other Educational Supervisors across the network.

The Educational Supervisors meet every two months and there is a trainee representative on that group providing a formal link with all the Specialist Registrars. There is also a Palliative Medicine STEC which meets twice a year and again has SpR representation.

I am currently working as a Consultant at Willowbrook Hospice in Liverpool and at the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology over in the Wirral. Having trained in Merseyside I hope that I have a good understanding of both the rotation and the various issues facing Specialist Registrars.

I aim to meet all SpRs within 1 month of joining the programme as part of their induction and I am fully committed to ensuring that this rotation delivers high quality training for all trainees.

I am very keen to get feedback from SpRs (both good and less good!) and therefore would welcome any comments that you may have throughout your rotation in Palliative Medicine.
